ABOUT & FAQ
The Popeye is located on the Torrens River, Adelaide South Australia.
We operate from two landings.
The main landing is located in Elder Park, the wooden jetty is on the water, sitting near the rotunda and The Festival Center.
The Zoo Landing is located just off Frome Road, down the stairs closest to the city side of Albert Bridge.
Wheelchair access: Popeye unfortunately does not have ramp access. There are two steps up and a further four steps down into Popeye. There is a handrail to the left side and a skipper and deckhand who will always offer to assist. Most wheelchairs can fit through Popeye’s entrance. There is room at the rear of the Popeye to store walkers, wheelchairs & prams.
Disabled parking: There is disabled parking available in Adelaide City, find where by clicking HERE. The closest and easiest access is via the Zoo Landing. Both The Zoo Landing and Elder Park Landing have ramps leading to Popeye.
Hearing Impaired. If you would like a transcript of our commentary for a booked tour please email us and ask for hard copies to be ready for you on the day.
Toilets: Popeye does not have toilets on board however there are public toilets located in Elder Park on Festival Drive, just under the Festival Centre.

WHO WE ARE
The Popeye and Captain Jolleys Paddle Boats are a small family run business currently owned privately by the Shuman family. Tony Shuman had purchased The Popeye fleet in April of 2011 after spending nearly 20 years on the riverbank managing a paddle boat, roller blade and bike hire business. While Tony still operates at the helm of Popeye casually, managing was left to his daughter Bianca Shuman in early 2018.
We vary between 12-15 employees throughout the year, some staff staying for 20+ years and others staying for a summer. What we all share in common is a love for the outdoors, a love for our great state South Australia and a need to share it in the best way we know how.
We’re currently searching for candidates for a Popeye cruise captain and a deckhand position.
Captain Jolleys Paddle Boats are always on the look out for friendly, active staff who love the outdoors. If you have availability over the weekends and during the week in school holidays send a resume over to firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know why you’d make a fantastic paddle boat attendant.
